Rèja commits a re-useable sanitary pad for every item purchased via the Kenyan based, “Forever Foundation”.
Why Sanitary pads?
Two words: dignity and education. Both of which everyone should have a right to, however, unfortunately some women are stripped of this right as a result of something as natural as a monthly menstrual cycle.
The lack of funds to buy sanitary supplies means women in Kenya often resort to using less effective and unhygienic methods. Not only do these methods not work, but they can also lead to serious infections and discomfort.
Roughly 1/10 girls in Africa miss school during menses, which frequently results in class dropouts. This leads to increased gender disparity with many girls remaining less educated and less likely to defeat poverty, compared to their male counterparts.
Being on their “period” becomes a physical, social and economic health hazard, limiting their life prospects and opportunities.
Rèja hopes to create a positive change and spread awareness, in whatever capacity we can.
